Health and Nutrition Project
The Health and SRH for all project in the Central Province of Sri Lanka is a follow-up project supported by the Foundation MDM, France and the previous project was supported by the MDM France (partly by MDM Japan) since 2017. The Project mainly focuses on right of the community and SRH awareness.
The Right to Health, Sexual, and Reproductive Health (SRH) are challenging subjects as well as SRH is a taboo among the women, men and youth not only living in plantations but also in rural areas in Sri Lanka. In plantations, particularly women and teenage girls are the most vulnerable due to lack of knowledge / awareness and services on contraceptive, family planning and GBV. Less opportunity to access to SRH services; the language issues and transportation are some of the problems faced by the target communities. In this context, the Health and Sexual and Reproductive Health Project for Plantation Community in the Central Region is strategically an intervention towards improving their health rights with focus on SRH health rights, with specific focus on Plantation women, men and youth. The SDG 3 –Health issues and the SDG 5 - Gender equality are considered as important themes. The Project is being implemented in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya within 15 estates (6 Deltota, 4 Galaha, and 5 Maskeliya) and 20 divisions. The Activities of the project is as follows:
- Public Awareness Creation through IEC Materials on SRH, Communicable deceases, and Covid 19.
- Lobby, Advocacy and Networking for integration of plantation health system.
- Provide Support to Health & Medical Facility - The PPE and medical items will be supplied to 500 Key Community Leaders, Front Line Health Workers and Respective Officers, etc….
